MBK Dowel Delta

by Nesrin Spira
(Mugla, Turkey)

We are flying one of your kites :) It is amazing that she flew one day 150 metre in windy day and she wanted to fly over but the string's length did not allow to...

We are planning to make more kites from your paper kites projects in May with the children in our little village. Will let you know :)

I send you a video from today's try as there is almost 0 wind, even so it was really fun...

By the way, while we were making this kite, one measure did not match so we had to change it. In the picture the highlighted measure we changed to 33.2cm...

Light wind flying
by: Tim P.

Yes, this Dowel Delta sure is fun to fly in very light wind! Even if the breeze appears to be zero at ground level, there is often just a few kph higher up. Hence the delta will still stay up there :-)

You had me worried for a moment, regarding the 'error'. But I went out to my shed and double-checked the original Dowel Delta, and it's OK...

If you look carefully, you will see that the measurement you highlighted actually refers to the distance from nose to the towing point. And the distance of the leading edge dowel, back to where the spreader crosses, is 30cm exactly. But if you made it 33.2cm, that would still work ok. Of course, you have photographic proof that it did!

Hope you have heaps more fun flying the delta as weather permits.

Regarding the Paper Series kites, the Sled would be an obvious first choice since it is by far the easiest build. Some of the others would be better made by an adult - but of course the kids can share in the flying fun :-) And they could certainly help out with cutting the tails.
