Sled Kite Made in Secret by 52-Year-Old Dad

by Simon
(SW France )

Just over 6 weeks ago with a new baby due I found myself picking up odd items with the shopping. Clear plastic tape, my own pair of scissors, some bbq skewers, sewing thread, a ruler and black marker pen. I did not get all these items at once as that would have aroused suspicion with Mum to be and "mother in law" (we are not married).

Anyway nature took its course and we have another beautiful baby girl.

One night during a few moments of calm (we have a 2 and a half year old as well) I fabricated the MBK 1 Skewer Sled kite using a bag for the recycling I had identified and hidden away.

The next afternoon there was a light breeze, baby was asleep and mummy and toddler were in the bath. I seized the moment and to my great excitement the kite took to the air, darting about in front of our house here in SW France where the wind is variable to say the least!

New Mum threw the shutters back in the bathroom to see the creation performing, not believing that it was made out of a recycling bag etc.

Lovely diversion from sleepless nights and has also been a hit with visiting kids and adults. It is so small I can grab it and be flying within minutes outside the back door.

Next is the 1 Skewer Delta. Strictly hush hush, you heard it first here...
