My kite spine is in two parts

Q:

My kite spine is in two parts so I have a 4 way connector to hold them and the other two spars.

Unfortunately I have lost the connector and cannot find anything online? Any ideas welcome.

A:

Four-way connectors do seem hard to find online! However, there are other ways around...

If you search on 'kite ferrules' you should be able to find some which fit your vertical spar pieces.

For the horizontal pieces, you could try a metal external ferrule, bent to the appropriate dihedral angle in a vice.

The two ferrules could be bound and glued together with epoxy.

Alternatively, a small block of hardwood or ABS plastic could be drilled out to fit your spar pieces. All this is not as easy as just buying something, but it will get your kite in the air!

Finally, you could give up on making the kite pack down, and simply glue and bind all the pieces together in the middle. Using short lengths of material similar to the spar material, bound to each side of both joins.

Comments from others welcome, particularly if you know a good source of 4-way kite spar connectors!
