Beetle Kite Attracts Dolphins

by Gavin S.

I have a fantastic story for you!

I am a shift worker, just finished my shift so I hope this makes sense as I am very sleepy...

I purchased a lady beetle kite that you reviewed on a past video. What a great kite in the air, it looks awesome!
I was on holidays on the weekend, just gone, and I flew the kite from the front of my motel, with my family. As it was on the beach I had many admirers, but there were some other admirers that came to the party.

A pod a dolphins... they must have seen the kite somehow and came for a closer look.

I have a big reel so it's easy to wind quickly if I have to. I brought the kite in so as not to scare the creatures but they went under water so I let the kite out a bit and they came back up.

The dolphins were so close to the shore like they were trying to tell us something.

We told the locals about it whilst at dinner and they said dolphins never come up here. Maybe it was the kite! Not sure but it was something else!

Five-kite rating for uniqueness! Thanks for sharing that experience. Might not happen again unless someone else copies you in the near future, in the same location.

I often notice birds attracted to my kites - but a pod of dolphins? Like you say - that's really 'somethin else'!

E-book special of the month (25% off)...

The Roller is a WW2 vintage design which is quite well known among more experienced kite enthusiasts. With it's upper and lower sails, this design has an attractive aircraft-like appearance in the air. This MBK version excels in light winds.

If you have made Diamonds before, this kite takes a little more time to make. With the help of my instructions, it's still do-able by a beginner.

Get the e-book for making the MBK Dowel Roller kite. After making your first one in plastic and seeing how it performs, you can try soft Tyvek or rip-stop nylon for your next build.

This Roller takes advantage of any rising air that happens to come by. By substituting a slightly wider diameter vertical spar, the kite remains comfortable right to the top of the Moderate wind range. Tail(s) are entirely optional, but may be added for looks.

The e-book is a PDF file - which means printable instructions to refer to while you make the kite. It also means convenient off-line access if that suits you better.

"30+ years ago, I tried making a kite using the 'instructions' in a free kite-safety booklet. What a disappointment for a young boy.

Your instructions and methods are wonderful. You help the builder to focus on accuracy, without making it hard. Also, you use materials that are durable, yet cheap!"
