8 MBK Kites To Make - The Complete Dowel Series
Classics In Dowels & Plastic This PDF eBook is a collection of useful information for making and flying 8 different kinds of large single-line kites. These designs fly best in light to moderate wind conditions, but some cope well with fresh breezes also. The eBook can be read off a computer screen, but is designed to be printed off and put in a binding of some sort. This handy kite-making reference would even make a great birthday or Christmas gift for a kite-mad friend... Use this eBook to ensure your next home-made kite is... - accurately made
- light and strong
- properly balanced
- easily connected to various flying lines and tails (if appropriate)
- and hence, a great flier!
Benefit from my 100s of hours of trial and error! Any round hard-wood dowel, such as oak, can be used for these kites. Except for the Delta, which is a little wider, all the designs are 1.2 meters (4 feet) across from tip to tip. Hence it's not hard to clear enough space on a floor somewhere to start construction. What's more... These MBK kites require minimal tools: just a ruler, marking pen, scissors and a small cheap hack-saw! Also, the materials are dirt-cheap: sticky tape, electrical insulation tape, dowels, wood glue and plastic bags! In fact, the glue is not used much at all, it's mainly for securing bridle knots on the kite's frame. Get ready to have some building and flying fun! Oh, one more thing... Unlike most of the plans and instructions you might find on the Web, this eBook shows you how to make your big Dowel kites easily transportable. They just come apart and roll up like a Sled kite! A slim 1.2 meter (4 feet) package will fit just about anywhere. Strapped to a bicycle, tossed in the back of a car or even a backpack. Even a large suit-case could probably fit one diagonally across, so you could take one on a plane. You don't need a store-bought kite to have one that is big yet packable!
Measurement Units:Chances are you have already browsed through quite a few kite designs on the Web. The measurements are either in Metric, Imperial or some kind of generic units. Too bad if your accustomed measurement unit isn't there... Guess what... This eBook gives you all 3! Every measurement is in Metric and Imperial units. Do you like to scale kite plans up or down? No problem, all measurements are also quoted in Dowel Lengths (DL), where 1.0DL is the flat wing-span of the kite. That's all the measurements on the Plan graphic, Template graphic as well as every reference to a measurement in the text. For example, 0.5DL (600mm, 24").
