The term '1-Skewer' refers to the fact that the basic 'building block' of these kites is a single bamboo BBQ skewer. Also, except for the Delta, all the designs have a wing-span of just 1 skewer's length. A common size for these skewers is 30 c.m., or about 1 foot. At this size, it's no problem to find some space on a table somewhere to start construction.

Also, the materials are dirt-cheap: sticky tape, bamboo skewers, wood glue and plastic bags!
